Classic Hake Burger & Chips

A classic Hake burger served on a soft seeded bun with homemade dill tartar sauce and crunchy fries.

Ingredients

Fish & Chips

  • 1 x 400 g box of Sea Harvest Hake Burgers
  • 1 kg frozen American-style French fries
  • sea salt

Dill Tartar Sauce

  • ⅓ C (80 ml) mayonnaise
  • 1 baby onion/shallot, peeled & very finely chopped
  • 1 large gherkin, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp (15 ml) capers, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp (15 ml) fresh dill, finely chopped
  • juice and zest of 1 lemon
  • salt and black pepper

To Assemble

  • 4 seeded hamburger buns, sliced and buttered on both sides
  • 4 lettuce leaves, washed
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 2 large gherkins, sliced into rounds
  • 1 lemon wedge

Preparation & Cooking

Fish & Chips

  • Preheat the oven to 220 ºC.
  • Lay frozen Hake Burgers onto a baking tray. Place into the oven to cook for 25-30 minutes until crunchy. Alternatively, cook in an air fryer for the recommended time.
  • Bake or air fry the fries for the recommended cooking time; once cooked season with salt.

Dill Tartar Sauce

  • Add all of the ingredients to a small mixing bowl and stir to combine. Check and adjust seasoning and then set aside until ready to use.

To Assemble

  • Toast the buttered buns in a dry frying pan over medium-high heat until golden brown.
  • Spread tartar sauce on both sides of the buns, then top with some lettuce and a Hake burger. Add slices of tomato, slices of gherkin, and a squeeze of lemon juice. Top with the other half of the bun and serve with a side of fries and extra tartar sauce.
