Operations
Sea Harvest’s fresh fish processing plants in Saldanha and Mossel Bay are built on deep water quays. This enables the trawlers to tie up alongside and off-load into the factory, essentially becoming part of the production line. The fresh fish factories produce a wide range of natural products such as fillets, loins, steaks and portions that are either plate frozen, blast frozen or individually quick frozen (IQF) for retail and foodservice markets around the world.
Besides frozen products, fresh head-on and gutted fish (PQ’s) and chilled fillets are packed in these facilities and air freighted to international markets.
Sea Harvest’s value-added processing plant in Saldanha is BRC (British Retail Consortium) accredited and produces a wide range of products that are coated, battered, crumbed, sauced or char-grilled to customer specifications.
Sea Harvest owns its own cold storage facilities which are equipped with mobile racking and have the capacity to hold more than 6 000 pallets.
Quality Assurance
Sea Harvest’s Quality Assurance programme starts on board its vessels and continues through the entire supply chain, ensuring quality and total traceability.
All vessels and processing facilities are fully EU and HACCP accredited and comply with United States FDA requirements. Sea Harvest facilities and processing methods are audited and monitored for compliance by the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS), the South African accredited regulatory body.
